FAQs
How do you pronounce Toja?
- Toy – Yah
Where are your brackets made and what materials are used?
- Our brackets are Made In Canada. Depending on the bracket we use 12 or 14 gauge North American steel. All brackets have an outdoor weather coating allowing them to be used year-round even in 4 season climates.
Why do you not supply screws for every hole on the brackets?
- Our brackets come with enough screws to fill 2 holes, using the holes closest to where the lumber inserts into the bracket. The other holes are for future accessory attachments, such as SHADE SAILs. We do not recommend filling all of the holes as it can put too much stress on your lumber causing fishers and cracks in the wood over time.
Why is anchoring hardware NOT included?
- Depending on your location and the type of surface, different anchoring bolts will be required. Also, depending on your location and build there may be local building requirements that need to be adhered to.
Why is lumber NOT included? And, what is the best type of lumber to use?
- The main reason lumber is not included is shipping wood is extremely expensive and most populations will have access to local stores that sell wood. The best type of wood to use is any completely dry and straight lumber, in the correct cut, you choose for your build.
Do keep in mind some wood such as pressure treated retains a lot more moisture and sap and can take a significant amount of time to dry out completely before your build.
My lumber is not fitting in the brackets, why?
- Our primary line of brackets are made for 4x4 and 6x6 dressed wood.
- There are different cuts of wood. Dressed wood is planed on all sides, has rounded corners and is most commonly referred to as 4x4 (actually measuring 3.5”x3.5”) and 6x6 (actually measuring 5.5”x5.5”) in stores.
- Rough Cut or Rough Sawn wood is dried, but not planed. It is cut to a true 4x4 or 6x6 size.
What is the recommend maximum wood span?
- We do not recommend exceeding 12 ft. lumber for either the width or depth of any single pergola section. We also do not recommend (unless a specific exception is noted on the product page) 8 ft. lumber for your vertical posts.
Can I use your brackets to build a covered and/or framed in structure?
- For any build outside of scope from our kit and product offerings we recommend speaking with an engineer as well as reviewing our Structures Page for more information as well as available engineering documents.
Are the shade options based on the inside or outside dimensions of my pergola?
- The shade options are based on the inside dimensions of your pergola. Inside post to inside post.
